We’ve recently received some new tracks from My Favourite Robot releasing a cover of Cure’s classic Fascination Street and some devastating remixes. This time the Canadian duo composed of Jared Simms and Voytek Korab is releasing as an artist on another label MileEnd Records instead of their own. Enjoy the following 128kbps remixes by Elevator People and Omid 16b.
“Omid16b, is at the helm with a foot stomping skin tingler. This electrifying groove is laced with atmospheric synth pads, layer upon layer of flawlessly incorporated sounds, bass and breakbeat. The Elevator People round it out with a deep and funky old school house jam…not to be missed.”
News from Basserk! You know what that means. Basserk is releasing newcomer Klipar‘s new Ep February 25th. He’s a young Portuguese electro dj/producer who found his way to fidget house recently. Keep an eye on Beatport and the Basserk online shop.
Like some of you know I personally don’t like fidget any more. It has find its way to my ear way too much and I’m getting kinda tired of it. But I love Basserk and they always find really unique artists. Also Klipar did a really great job on his new Ep. Even though it’s fidget and can’t please me, I’m sure a lot of phase02 readers will be blown away after hearing the new Klipar sound. What do you think?
Yes yes, the academy is back once again, this time in London, UK. I can’t start to let our readers know how invaluable a resource their video archives have been for me. I’ve watched over 50 lectures from artists like – Theo Parish, Moritz Von Oswald (Basic Channel), Goldie, Steve Goodman (Kode9), D-Bridge, Mala, Derrick May, A Guy Called Gerald, … A stunning cast of some seriously innovative legendary artists. These video’s are a godsend for me, and in my opinion better than any classroom oriented instructions you could receive at a music technology college. Of course, the topics of discussion are never centered specifically around one area, like ‘production & techniques’ – instead, the focus is set to encompass a fuller span touching on all areas related to musicianship and the industry. The wealth of knowledge and experience to be had is absolutely unsurmountable.
The application process for the academy can be quite rigid because they’re selecting from a large pool of applicants all competing for a limited number of invitations. You can expect then that if you’re lucky enough to attend you’ll be surrounded by like minded aspiring artists, all with a common love for music and their craft. That being said, I have to pose the question: do you get to choose which lectures you attend? I always find it a bit funny (or frustrating) when audience members don’t know, or have never heard of these lecturers. I can’t help but think to myself “my god, don’t you realize how lucky you are? How the **** do you not know who’s sitting in front of you?” Gilles from Lost Art, a partner of the RMBA, has provided me with a little condensed clip of the lecture from Mala back in 2008.
The academy not only hosts some of the biggest names from House, Techno, DnB, Dubstep, and all the other electronic musics, but also features a variety of artists and industry professionals involved with Jazz, Soul, Reggae, Pop, … Basically, regardless of your background and musical tastes there will be something here for you. Aside from the lecturers there is also been quite a few recent participants that have really launched themselves forward through the academy. Don’t quote me on this bit but I have an inkling that Jamie Woon and Subeena we’re both previous participants. I know at very least that they definitely collaborated on a track together titled “Solidify” featured on the RMBA compilation CD from 2008. Other participants include: Desto, Braiden (Rinse FM), Hudson Mohawke, (Steve Beckette, founder of Warp Records found and signed him here) as well as many other’s that are probably featured on the RMBA compilation CD’s.
This year’s line up is again, an all star back 2 back – But what else does the academy offer? Well, to start with, they host group workshops where the artists and participants together go in depth into the science of sound and music production. Throughout the runnings there is also some great parties to attend. I’m obviously a bit late announcing this but Mala and Goldie both did sets at Culture Clash, a recent showcase in conjunction with the academy. If you’re living in or around the London area, stay tuned on the Red Bull Music Academy website for any information on anymore up coming parties.
P.S. attn. RMBA, please fix the videos for Carl Craig, MJ Cole, and Kieran Hebden. I’m dying here….
Craig Heneveld is a DJ/Producer based in Tampa Florida. Since the age of 18, he’s been producing, remixing and djing dance music. His musical style is best described as “fluid and deep, littered with deep bass hooks and subtle percussive rhythms”. System Recordings has recently released Craig’s “Deep reply EP“. If these simple facts don’t tell you anything, you should have a listen to this track below.
Remember we said we only post stuff we really like. Well I’m not quite sure about this one to be honest. It might just be a tad too ordinary. It sounds like its made for a really wide audience. I’m not sure though. In some parts I think “hey, this is going the right direction”. But unfortunately that’s not feeling that dominates. So I can’t really make up my mind. The track “Deep reply” is definitely my favourite one of this EP. Go check it out and judge for yourself.
Adrian Recordings has released Andreas Tilliander‘s new Ep a couple of days ago. For now it’s only available on 12″ vinyl. For those who want it digitally should wait till March the 1st to grab it on beatport.
For those who can’t remember Andreas from his earlier post on phase02. He’s a Swedisch dub techno master signed with Adrian Recordings, but also running his own label Repeatle. Andreas started back in 2001 with his debut album “Ljud” (2001) on the legendary electronica label Mille Plateaux.
Now enjoy the track “Medication” from his 4th release Showtime on Adrian Recordings.
You remember Pelski? The kick-ass music bloggers who announced phase02 the best blog of 2009? Of course you do! Together with Big Chill House they’re having their a Pelski clubnight in London with Rustie(Wireblock, Warp), Roska(Kicks & Snares), The Boog-A-Loo Crew(Trouble Vision) and Charles Darkley (You Can Call Me Pelski). Just looking at the line up I can say you don’t wanna miss this. It’s on February the 19th, totally free before midnight at Big Chill House, London. If Antwerp was right next to London I’d be there. More info on Facebook.
To make it even better, this invitation comes with two amazing mixes by The Boog-A-Loo Crew and Charles Darkley. And if that’s not enough, you can grab two bonus tracks at the bottom. I’m talking about Roska’s original Hey Cutie and the Boog-A-Loo Crew remix of DRT’s Rising Sun.

On the day this world lost an amazing mind, Basserk Records is celebrating their 5th anniversary. After 5 years of Basserk we have met and released a lot of great artists and we wanted to find a way to put them all together, we think the Big Fat Zip does that perfectly. This compilation is [...]
