Drop It 04

No Comments Drop it, Electro, House

It’s time of the year where Sinterklaas, a holy man looking like these fellas in the picture, travels around West-Europe and give the sweet kids the nicest gifts. Well I feel like playing Sinterklaas and give my dear readers some candy tunes from some young upcoming talents who try to get their names out there.

We start of with good chap of the Netherlands called Quarantehuit who’s been making really nice electro. You might know him from his Chemical Brothers remix Hey Boy, Hey Girl. Anyway he told me he’s back in a producing mood so make sure you keep an eye on him.

The next tune is one from really amazing artists from Germany. They originaly made rock music but swapped their guitars for synths and a computer. I’m talking about ULTRNX who’ve been kind to share their kick-ass remix of GRUM’s masterpiece Woah.

The next up is Egotronic with a magic combination of synths and bass. Don’t need to say more, just check it out, you’ll know what I mean. They don’t need more then 20secs to make you love this track. Although you really have to love this style to dig it.

Again time for a very tasty remix! This time by these really talented and incredibly unknown young Disco Wizards from Scotland. Their name says it all. And check this out – they’ve remixed The Beach Boys! Now you’re thinking “Oh no again some stupid kids who fucked up a classic with their computer”. Actually yeah, that’s what happened. But I kind of like it and it caught my attention and I checked out their myspace and they’ve got some really nice tunes up there (FREE!) – and what the f*ck they’ve only got 94 friends. So go up there and give them some really hardcore cyberlove!

The end with with we have this brave guy called mrRobotnik who dared to remix MSTRKFT. And to be honest he did a quite good job. I think he could have done a better job on the new melody. It starts annoying me a little to fast. But there’s just now way you can beat the original.

For those who live near Bruges: We’re playing Saturday night 23u-01u @ a party in Zedelgem.

Mansion! Yeah I guess you might have heard of them before. They’ve been posted on a lot of other blogs including the famous Discodust music blog. But since I totally dig what they’ve done to that Bounce track by MSTRKRFT, I just had to share this with you guys and also because I had a fun idea of playing with the image they provided.

Anyway I’m going to let you enjoy their music now before I write this post full of completely useless stuff like about that image. I’m just in a talking mood even though I have nothing to say. Oh yeah, before I forget, They’re from Toronto and you have to keep an eye on them! Now … enjoy!

Hidden Depths

San Miguel Hidden depths

The San Miguel Hidden Depthsinitiative invites respected labels DJs and artists to each curate a one-off party showcasing their favourite acts. So far this summer, Wall of Sound have brought Marc Almond and DJ Pierre to the Soho Revue Bar, and The Glimmers somehow bagged Grandmaster Flash for a set at Manchester’s Joshua Brooks;  Thursday 31st July, was the turn of Giles Smith and James Priestley, the brains behind after-hours rave institution secretsundaze: their chosen guests were, Detroit techno innovator Theo Parrish and UK house “original rude-boy” Ashley Beedle, at T-Bar on Shoreditch High Street. As with all the events, Hidden Depths transforms the venues into “a bespoke space with customised art and print design, ensuring a unique audience experience”.

The 21th of August it’s Chromeo who’s going to put the The End/AKA, London on fire. Buy your ticket here. Now enjoy these crazy remixes by Dolby Anol and MSTRKRFT. And I have to admit San Miguel is actually a very nice beer! Cheers!

Pukkelpop Report

Pukkelpop 2007 was an amazing edition with more then 140.000 visitors, 180 incredible bands of various music genres and a bunch of crazy party people dressed as the Power Rangers or crazy dancing pink puppets. If you live close to Belgium, this festival is one you just have to experience. Bands and Djs like Kaiser Chiefs, Basement Jaxx,The Hives, Just Jack, SHITDISCO, Tool, Goose, Justice, Booka Shade, Andy C, Dj Marky, Boys Noize, Armand Van helden and a lot more really blew up the place and made the crowd going crazy. Being a part of this crowd was absolutely amazing!

Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs climbed a pillar on the stage while singing the song” I predict a riot” … crazy ! It was pretty high actually, but the crowd loved it! Amazing show Chiefs !!!

Wicked performance from Goose in the Dance Hall after we got warmed up by an amazing set of Justice, was perfect to end pukkelpop for me. From the start of the first sounds all the hands rose and never came down, all the bodies started to move and never stopped until the last beat bounced through the hall. I never has seen such an energetic show with such an amazing atmosphere, everyone was just dancing and singing along, moving those hands on the beat…. It was hot in there and it was more then worth it!
