bristol calling.

Alright, so, I guess I am obviously a bit late sharing this, as the materials presented are a bit dated, but I’ve only recently acquired it myself. “Living Inside the Speaker” is a free short documentary filmed a couple years ago by friends “Mike and Mark”. Their project is a DIY independent effort that takes us a little closer into the heart of Bristol’s subculture; specifically, the Dubstep community, and the people involved there in the shops, the clubs, and on the streets.

For those of us who exist outside, living on the outskirts and fringes of this music, it can be sometimes hard to really get a sense of what is happening at ground zero. Of course, with the internet, forums, blogs, and social networking etc. it’s alot easier to stay in tuned with what’s going on – but you’re really getting all of your information online, after the fact, and in a sort of one dimensional perspective.

What I got from viewing this is that with enough interest and some good people you can really take something and make it your own, build it from the ground up. I respect that mindset and implore all those who also share a similar work ethic.
